Initial tests show smooth performance, vibrant display, and impressive battery life. Pre-order now for an affordable tech experience! Redmi, a brand under Xiaomi, has introduced its new budget-friendly smartphone series in India. This latest lineup, named Redmi 13C, consists of two models: the Redmi 13C and the Redmi 13C 5G.
Following the Redmi 12C launched in March, the Redmi 13C takes its place. The 5G version of this phone offers varying RAM and storage options—4GB+128GB, 6GB+128GB, and 8GB+256GB. Prices start at Rs 10,999 for the base model and go up to Rs 14,499 for the top-tier variant. The Redmi 13C 5G is available in three colors: Starlight Black, Startrail Green, and Startrail Silver.
The Redmi 13C 5G is up for pre-order, with sales beginning on December 12. We got our hands on the 8GB version in Startrail Silver and conducted some initial tests. Here’s what we think about the phone.
Looks and Build of Redmi 13C 5G
The phone has a plastic body and frame, which is reasonable given its cost. Surprisingly, the plastic doesn’t compromise the phone’s appearance and touch. It’s a lightweight device, making it comfortable to hold. The back panel has a shiny design that catches the light, adding a nice touch. The phone’s size makes it easy to use with one hand, and it feels durable enough to handle small bumps. Additionally, the display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, reducing the risk of damage from accidental drops.
Screen Redmi 13C 5G
The Redmi 13C comes with a 6.74-inch Dot Drop display that brings out vibrant colors and responds well to touch. The 90Hz refresh rate ensures a smooth experience while using the phone. The screen also includes eye protection features to lessen strain. With a peak brightness of 600 nits, the display works well in outdoor settings. Whether you’re watching movies or playing games, the smartphone’s screen delivers a good viewing experience.
Camera
The Redmi 13C comes with two cameras on the back—a powerful 50MP primary camera with AI features and a secondary camera. For taking selfies and making video calls, there’s a 5MP front-facing camera. Both the main and selfie cameras do a good job, capturing colors that look almost real and shooting steady videos.

The phone also comes with various camera modes, including ones for night shots and portraits, catering to different situations. Stay tuned for our full review for more in-depth details about the camera.
Performance
Getting the phone up and running is a breeze, and the overall performance is good. The Dimensity 6100+ 5G chipset, coupled with 8GB of RAM, performs well. In our initial tests, we didn’t experience any slowdowns or glitches. The smartphone handled apps and games smoothly.
Software and Storage
The Redmi 13C runs on Android 13 with Xiaomi’s MIUI 14 skin, and the user interface is pretty easy to navigate. While MIUI provides a smooth experience, the phone does come with some pre-installed apps that you might not need, often referred to as bloatware. The phone’s 256GB storage is ample for most users, but if you need more space, you can use a microSD card to expand storage up to 1 TB.
Battery Life
The Redmi 13C is equipped with a 5000mAh battery, providing more than a day’s usage on a single charge with regular use. While the phone supports up to 18W fast charging, the included adapter in the box only delivers 10W. With the provided adapter, it takes a bit over two hours for the phone to reach a full charge.
Our Opinion
Given the price of the smartphone, it looks like a solid option in the affordable category. In our first tests, the phone performed reasonably well overall. To get a better understanding of our experience with the Redmi 13C and to make a smart decision before purchasing, it’s recommended to wait for the complete review.
